Only slightly :)
The confusion comes (for me) from mixing appointments with "please
volunteer for stuff you're inetrested in". Appointments implies that you
will be inviting people to take on tasks or join teams, "please move
your name" implies that it is up to people to do what's important. Where
does the "official members" and "defined work" end, and the unofficial
members and undefined work start?

Sure, I have ideas. I would love to draft some wiki guidelines & try to
organise some wiki editors. But do I wait until I'm invited, or do I
just start, that is the question?
As you can see, I've also been proposing making contributions (when the
opportunity arises) in documentation toolchain & licencing discussions,
and community metrics, and project governance (such as my council
proposal which was not that well received). It all seems kind of meta
activity for the moment, rather than Getting Stuff Done.
Also (and this is not a minor concern) I'm wondering whether any time I
give to MeeGo might come under the terms of my Maemo work, or whether it
is independent & thus 100% volunteer effort. if it doesn't then that
means that while I'm eager to help, I will have less time to do so.
Cheers,
Dave.
