My understanding was that at least the phone distros of meego was expected to be a mix of open and closed source, since a lot of the low level drivers for phone hardware was encumbered with NDAs... If so, I don't see an issue with having some closed source on the website.
Personally I take a very pragmatic view of open source. I run mac os x at home because I haven't found anything open source that even comes close to aperture for a pro photo tool. I *tried* running an openmoko freerunner for over a year before I gave up and got a n900, which has some closed source software, but doesn't miss calls...
I don't know enough about forum sw to make a call one way or the other, but I do not see vB being closed source as a showstopper.
