[MeeGo-dev] MeeGo core utiltities, coreutils or busybox?

Is the MeeGo infra based on Moblin? Could you give a link to where you got that info? I haven't seen anything official anywhere.

As for the original question, I would support Marius' view of using the more modern solution. The license discussion is an interesting one though.

As MeeGo infrastructure is based on Moblin, I can image that bash + coreutils will be used and it is my preference too.

However I don't expect the target device to be 32GiB flash or similar :-) The minimal HW requirement like 64MiB flash, 64 MiB RAM with 300MHz CPU sounds reasonable to me. The question will be if we can fit MeeGo into that, esp. GUI part.

Hi,

what should MeeGo use for its core utilities, like /bin/ls, /bin/cp,
etc?

Maemo has used busybox in its 'PR' (product) configurations, and GNU
coreutils / whatever Scratchbox 1 has in its 'DEV' (development,
obviously) configurations.

I think the devices that MeeGo targets can easily host the GNU
coreutils, and I believe Moblin is using them, too. Development pretty
much requires them, and it is good to safe us from the pain of having
different kinds of core utilities in different configurations.

To be fair, Maemo has been living OK with busybox, but it feels really
odd to have busybox on a device with 32 gigs and 500 Mhz "for space and
performance reasons".

(The GNU coreutils are GPLv3 now, I think. Would that matter?)
