I would like to ask that we not use Akamai and Amazon EC2. My reasons are technical and strategic;
1. Akamai and Amazon use proprietary technology which conflicts with Free Software practices
2. Akamai and Amazon have latency issues, bandwidth issues and in general are not as good as other solutions
There is an excellent tool called MirrorBrain which is widely used, hooks into the OBS, works really well, can trivially be extended both with new mirrors and with new code, costs significantly less that Akamai, and has an attractive license. Why not consider using that?
