We're working with the Empathy guys to make UI improvements to enable
our 1.1 Netbook features, obviously that's all happening upstream.
They've migrated their git master over to dconf + GSettings a couple of
weeks ago. So our UI improvements are going to end up gated on that.

Similarly Thomas is working upstream on the gnome-control-center shell
which is switching to GSettings and GTK3. Once again this to enable
Netbook 1.1 features.

Switching some components to the variants using dconf does not mandate
the removal of gconf.

Well, yeh, obviously. We don't have to transition all our components,
these libraries are designed to be parallel installable with other
versions.

I'd like to see us the lead the way here as we have done with other new
technologies.

Cheerio,

Rob
