Hi,
People have requested and more open test management for MeeGo.com so
here goes my proposal.
Basic principles of MeeGo test management:
1. Tests are open and available for contributions
2. Tests cases are stored in version control
3. Test management meetings are open for participation
In practice this could happen so that we store all of our tests in
version control, like in MeeGo development projects.
After that MeeGo Quality can follow MeeGo contribution policy and people
interested in Quality can gain merit with contribution.
Currently we have test suites available [1,2,3] at gitorious project
QA-tools, some tests in Testlink which is not open for community :(
I propose we start using version control for all tests, open for all.
So we end up in tool support for my proposal.
We have open test plan format, test-definition. Idea behind this test
definition is that it allows testers and developers to run easily any
tests written with any test tool or language. You can also easily wrap
existing test suites and automate them with this format.
This format is defined because we use it extensively in fully automated
testing (test control computer executes all tests automatically). Format
also supports semi-automated testing (some test steps executed by
computer, some steps executed by tester) and manual testing (all steps
executed by tester). Format definition is available [4], documented [5]
with demo [6]. Format is XML but we have user friendly tool support to
edit test plans with Testplanner [7]. You can install those tools for
Ubuntu 10.04 from Tools:Testing repository [8] and try them yourself.
If you use these tools for test management they provide result format
which can be used with MeeGo QA reporting system [9]. It's being taken
into use officially the next week, November 8th. Intent is that test
reports would NOT be sent to meego-qa with large attachements [10].
Finally, making MeeGo Quality, Test Management and Bug Triaging meetings
open allows people to follow activities and contribute.
So there was my proposal, all comments welcome. Practices and processes
are being ramped up so many things can be changed based on your feedback.
Please also check what kind of features are being developed to MeeGo QA
tools [11].
MeeGo Quality wiki [12] is still bit of a mess but you can find
information there. Dublin workshop referred below is arranged during
unconference days.
Regards,
-Ville
