I am not sure if this is what you are asking, but in my case to get
the handset ux use the appropiate settings (mainly about using the
right screen resolution) I changed  the following key:

gconftool-2 --set /meegotouch/target/name --type=string "slate"

And now the  resolution is okay on  my device
