thanx Adrian, I've tried mcssvalidator as you suggested.
the result is consistent with the app. i.e. app crapped out, when
mcssvalidator ruled the style sheet is invalid, and vice versa. 
what bothers me is that the difference between a valid and a invalid
style sheet is so trivial. for example, I could add 'px' or 'mm' to some
number, and the valid one becomes invalid !!

the valid style sheet I am using is attached.
